Great Train Show – Indiana Fairgrounds

Greetings to all Indiana Larger Scale Railroaders.  The winter months make difficult to do a lot with Garden Railroads in Indiana.  So if your needing some model railroading time you may want to check this out. The Great Train Show is at the Indiana State Fairgrounds,  Saturday February 12, 10AM – 4PM and Sunday February 13, 10AM – 4PM.  Our Modular Railroad group will also have the ILSR modular layout set-up.  So if you have some free time you may want to make a trip out to the State Fairgrounds.  If you are interested in helping set-up the modular layout contact James Driesbach, the set-up will begin on Friday if you are interested.

I look forward seeing you this Spring as we start events for the season with our Spring Banquet – information will be available in our April Newsletter.

CANCELED: Modular Setup at the Upland Strawberry Festival

As you know, we continue to deal with the pandemic and the governors guidelines. I, along with the club president and board members have decided it would be best to not do the Upland show. Also, the Castleton Christian church has cancelled their September festival. At this time, unless we decide to do the Fort Wayne show, possibly in November, we will not be setting up until February of 2021. I have been in contact with Bill Grove (Great Train Expo) and they have been out of their office for the month of May and are just beginning to get back sometime mid to late June. The fall and winter schedule is not yet put together. if at all possible, I would like to try to do the Fort Wayne show to make up for the two we lost this year, provided the date works out and there is enough interest. We would be taking just the one trailer up and putting the layout we use in Upland. Last year they moved the date for the Fort Wayne show out of December and it was the week before Thanksgiving. I am continuing to look for possible new shows, when I find one of interest I will notify you by email. I know Dave Wheelock has been keeping you updated, but I wanted to make sure you guys knew I am working on getting us back on track.

Upland Strawberry Festival Recap

Brandon Carney’s Amtrak E8Amtrak 411 zooms by the circus in Upland, IN.

The club had a fantastic time as always in Upland, IN at the 2019 Blooms and Barries Festival. Bill Duncan noted that 14 different trains ran throughout the day. As always there were many that enjoyed the display. I’m sure the whole group is already looking forward to next year’s festival for all the fun of running trains! Well, and fresh strawberries too. Okay, a few of us might mostly look forward to that part… myself included.

The next modular setup is on the schedule for September 21, at the Castleton Christian Church Palooza. Till then enjoy some of these photos from Upland.

Great Train Expo

The Great Train Expo Feb 4-5 was a huge success for the modular group… They debuted their new yard layout which allowed 4 long trains to be staged and ready to run with a few throw outs and a transformer change!!! They had trains setup for the entire weekend and could run which ever train was requested by the audience. Thanks Bud for sharing some of your pictures :

HELP! Modular Group Request

November 3, 2014 – After a very successful Modular Group Show at the November, 2014 Dayton, Ohio Train Show, the Group is very anxious to get started on building the new Modular Layout 2.0. The plan is to expand the number of modules and to have the Group build all those future modules to a common and compatible theme. In that regard, James has issued this request:

To all Indiana Large Scale Railroaders,

The Modular Group needs your help. We are in process of expanding the club layout. We need donations of anything anyone has that you feel you could part with for the cause. We can especially use track, switches and crossovers.  All donations would be greatly appreciated. We will use what we can for the layout and put non-usable items on eBay to buy other items we need. Plus I am still looking for serious members who want to get involved in the Modular layout.

Thanks, JAMES H. DRIESBACH

Subject: Set up– Great Train Expo

It’s that time again, set up for the Great Train Expo at the Indiana State Fairgrounds is Friday January 3rd, 2014. I will be there at 11:00 am. We had a great show there in October. Hope to see everyone. If I don’t hear from you I will assume you will be there. If you cannot make it let me know. If you can make it and you are bringing modules but you will be a little later than 11:00 let me know when you will be there so we can do set up accordingly.

For those of you who are new to set up, we are in the Blue Pavilion building. It is the one sponsored by Marsh. We are in the center rear of the building.

See you Friday-James H. Driesbach

Kids and Trains

October 17, 2011 – Sandi Carney (Brandon's mom) was intrigued by the excitement of the children enjoying our ILSR Modular exhibit at the September, 2011 Fairgrounds Train Show. She sent along some great pictures of the little folks, both happy and intense. Check them out HERE.
