Bud, Rex and the Leviathan

David – Here are some interesting Photos for the ILSR Website. Rex Bowman and I paced the Steam Locomotive “Leviathan #63” yesterday from Fishers to Noblesville. This historic locomotive is America’s newest operating steam locomotive. It is a reproduction of the 1868 Central Pacific RR 4-4-0 steam locomotives and is expected to pull the Lincoln Funeral Train recreation in 2015. To help raise money for next year’s Lincoln Funeral Train, arrangements were made with the Indiana Transportation Museum in Noblesville to operate 4 trips out of Fishers to Noblesville and return on Saturday and again on Sunday, April 26 and 27.  Rex Bowman and Bud Hunter were on hand in Fishers to get photos of this historic train at 9:30 A.M. Sat., along with a good crowd of passengers, photographers and TV reporters/cameramen from channel 8 and 13. We have all seen locomotives of this vintage sitting in museums, but it was really neat to experience a live steamer of this design actually under steam. With all its bright red, polished brass and new black paint, this locomotive really stood out under the bright, Indiana sunshine.

The Leviathan was pulling an open gondola (@$40 per ticket) and the ITM 1898 Florida East Coast Business Car (@$125 per ticket).
