J.A.M.A. Railroad

A Featured Layout on the 2008 Four Club Tour
Hosted by the Indiana Large Scale Railroaders Club

The first phase of the J.A.M.A. Railroad, named after our four grandchildren, Jesse, Abi, Michael and Audrey, was the completion of the freight line. The inaugural run was on October 20th, 2004. Passenger service was added and the first passengers boarded on June 14th, 2007. The J.A.M.A. Railroad models the Santa Fe and the setting is the end of the steam era. The J.A.M.A. Railroad travels through the New Mexico towns of Raton, Las Vegas and Lamy. The grandchildren each have a business on the main street of Raton. Structures included on the railroad were made by Piko and Pola.

The J.A.M.A. Railroad features approximately 260 feet of Aristo-Craft stainless steel track, which allows trains to travel around a waterfall, past mountains, along a running stream and pond and through a five-foot tunnel. Since the spring of 2005 various plants, ground cover and shrubs have been added to our garden railroad.

The passenger line is powered by an LGB 2-4-0 steam locomotive; an LGB 2-8-2 Mikado steam locomotive powers the freight line. Both lines are controlled by a Crest walk-around system.

May 20, 2009 - Good morning: The main street picture and the group picture of visitors were taken by Tony Salo, our Finnish exchange daughter's husband, July, 2008 during the Four Club Tour. Elina and her family were here visiting and Tony was taking pictures of our guests and layout on the day of the tour. I took the other picture yesterday as I was working on the railroad. Rex
