April 26, 2014 – When we got back from our grandson’s baseball game early this afternoon, I heard the beautiful sound of a steam whistle in downtown Noblesville. When I got down to 8th Street just south of Conner (IN-32), the Leviathan was there. It left soon after in the unglamorous move of being towed to Fishers by an ITM diesel switcher hooked onto the south end of the consist.
However, after 45 minutes in Fishers, the real railroading began. The diesel had been uncoupled and, at 2:00 pm, the Leviathan pulled out, making all the proper steam engine sounds, with the consist behind in proper order. The final thrill of the day was seeing an 1800’s steamer arriving in downtown Noblesville – my hometown, no less, and heading on across the bridge into Forest Park, just like the good ol’ days! Outstanding!!
