New dates for the 36th National Garden Railway Convention

It is official. The 2020 National Garden Railway Convention (Nashville, TN.) has been canceled due to caronavirus concerns. It has now been rescheduled for the approximate same dates of May 30 to June 5, 2021 in Nashville,TN. The NGRC Denver, CO. now has also been rescheduled to 2022. The NGRC San Francisco Bay Area has also been rescheduled to 2023. If you had hotel reservations for Nashville, you probably will want to cancel (or reschedule) them now. I know of at least 2 families in our ILSR train club that have reservations to go to Nashville and there well could be more. Plan ahead and be safe! – Bud Hunter

April 2020 Newsletter and Updates

HI everyone!

I know everything is a bit discouraging right now, so I hope this update will allow you enjoy some trains and be distracted. The April 2020 Newsletter is now posted on the Newsletter page for members. It is filled with activity updates including a spring banquet cancellation/postponement. But there are other good things to enjoy.

Starting today through April 11, Kalmbach Media is ‘unlocking’ all of their premium web content for those who are not yet subscribed. This includes special content from Trains Magazine, Garden Railways, Model Railroader, and Model Railroader Video Plus to name a few. You can read more here.

Also, through April 6, USA Trains/Charles Ro Supply Company is having a special sale since the East Coast Large Scale Train Show was canceled. Be sure to check out the special sale here.

2020 Great Train Show

Another great year was had by all at the Great Train Show in Indianapolis, IN this past weekend. Posted are a few photos from the display. Club members from all around ran a dozen or so trains each day. Our fearless leader, James, was interviewed for some show promotion on WISHTV. Roann Covered Bridge Festival Exhibit – Kyle Draper

A few things of not have happened since the last update. My bad on getting this out later than I should have.

Upcoming Castleton Christian Church – Palooza

Hey guys it is about that time. We will be at the Castleton Christain Church on north Hague road starting at 1:00 pm Wednesday September 18th for set up. the show is on Saturday but we are using the extra days to work on the layout. please let me know if you will be able to be there and what days. any help is good help. The full address is on the web site (See the 2019 Calendar in the right column) and I will keep you informed of any updates.  I plan on being there earlier on Thursday, Friday and Saturday depending on when Randy can get me in to the church.  Thanks, James H. David & Sharon O’Haver – Open House Recap 2019

We had great weather for an open house a few weeks ago! David and Sharon’s new garden layout reflects the hard work they poured into this wonderful creation. It was exciting to see all the garden colors and the long bridge over the pond! David said a bridge was one of his top requirements when he started planning the layout. In addition to the garden layout, they setup a loop of track in the grass to run another train. All in all, everyone had a great time outdoors with trains and sunshine! Enjoy the photos and thank you David and Sharon for a great open house!

A celebration of Marion’s life will be held on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at 2:00 pm at the Gravel Lawn Cemetery Chapel beginning with Masonic Memorial Rites. Friends may call at the chapel on Wednesday from 12:00 pm until the time of service. Burial will follow the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gravel Lawn Cemetery Chapel, Good Samaritan of Hamilton County or the Fortville Masonic Lodge No. 207. 4014 Big Boy!

Bud Hunter was able to go catch some of Big Boy’s action on the high iron in Rochelle, IL this past Tuesday after it had been on display in West Chicago. “This is an amazing steam locomotive!” – Bud
