In other news, the next couple of events are just around the corner. First is the November 20 Danville Train Show and (yes it is that time already) Jingle Rails!

Lastly, a shout out to the last Modular Layout setup getting a brief mention in the news shown below.

Rick & Marty Fair 2021 Open House

August is always hot and humid weather wise, so ideally we would want to schedule a railroad open house venue with as much shade as possible. Rick and Marty Fair’s garden railroad features almost total shade and lots of railroading activity to enjoy. Rick supervised the train operations while Marty supervised being hostess with plenty of chairs to sit down and enjoy conversation, ice tea, lemonade – plus a huge variety of tasty breads.

Rick’s main railroad features 3 mainlines curving around through bridges, tunnels and various trees and bushes. Both steam and diesel locomotives are in use. There is also A “pondless waterfall” railroad that loops itself around this waterfalls and can be rather spellbinding to watch in and of itself. For those folks that enjoy interurbans and trolley cars, there is one of these to watch as well that automatically reverses itself at each end of the Line. Thank you Rick and Marty for hosting our August event in your lovely, shaded side and back yard. – Bud

June Event Updates

We are halfway through June now and have one event down and one event upcoming. But note that the event on the 26th has been changed:

The open house at the home of Randy and Jackie Banks on June 26th has been postponed till a later date. Instead, we will be meeting the same day, at George’s Grill at 11:30 AM, June 26th.. George’s Neighborhood Grill is at Binford and 71st street, actual address is 6935 Lake Plaza Dr, Indianapolis, IN 46220. We are planning on having a brief meeting, social time, and a brief presentation of some of the layouts and activities at the National Garden Railroad Convention recently held in Nashville Tennessee.

Sorry for this late change in our schedule I hope many of you have a chance to come out for this event. All families and guests are welcome.

Event Vice President

Thanks to all who made the Upland Strawberry Festival event happen with the modular layout. Attached are a few of Brandon & Sandi Carney’s and Bill Duncan’s photos.

Time to kick off 2021!

2021 is here and it’s time to get the trains out. The spring newsletter has been added to the website and more importantly, the events calendar is posted. The first two major events are in June are bound to be fun. Starting with Strawberries at the Upland Strawberry Festival where the modular layout is set to be set up. Then Randy and Jacquie Banks are hoasting an open house to show off their beautiful garden and layout. You won’t want to miss it!

Speaking of the modular layout, James has scheduled a meeting to prepare in May. All club members are welcome to attend.

The rest of the schedule still has details being ironed out, so be sure to watch the Events page for updates.

CANCELED: Modular Setup at the Upland Strawberry Festival

As you know, we continue to deal with the pandemic and the governors guidelines. I, along with the club president and board members have decided it would be best to not do the Upland show. Also, the Castleton Christian church has cancelled their September festival. At this time, unless we decide to do the Fort Wayne show, possibly in November, we will not be setting up until February of 2021. I have been in contact with Bill Grove (Great Train Expo) and they have been out of their office for the month of May and are just beginning to get back sometime mid to late June. The fall and winter schedule is not yet put together. if at all possible, I would like to try to do the Fort Wayne show to make up for the two we lost this year, provided the date works out and there is enough interest. We would be taking just the one trailer up and putting the layout we use in Upland. Last year they moved the date for the Fort Wayne show out of December and it was the week before Thanksgiving. I am continuing to look for possible new shows, when I find one of interest I will notify you by email. I know Dave Wheelock has been keeping you updated, but I wanted to make sure you guys knew I am working on getting us back on track.
THANKS, JAMES H. DRIESBACH–MODULAR GROUP COORDINATOR

New dates for the 36th National Garden Railway Convention

It is official. The 2020 National Garden Railway Convention (Nashville, TN.) has been canceled due to caronavirus concerns. It has now been rescheduled for the approximate same dates of May 30 to June 5, 2021 in Nashville,TN. The NGRC Denver, CO. now has also been rescheduled to 2022. The NGRC San Francisco Bay Area has also been rescheduled to 2023. If you had hotel reservations for Nashville, you probably will want to cancel (or reschedule) them now. I know of at least 2 families in our ILSR train club that have reservations to go to Nashville and there well could be more. Plan ahead and be safe! – Bud Hunter
